The Way-Back Machine Presents: My X-Files Journals

June 26, 2010

The truth is in this sketchbook!

As dedicated readers of this here blog, no doubt you’ve detected a tone of disdain for extreme levels of fandom – conventions, masturbatory chow chow, role playing, etc – but what you haven’t also detected is a distaste on par with an ex-smoker happening upon person still in the throes of addiction. Yes, folks, I was that kind of annoying, know it all, correct the even tiniest detail – no matter how inconsequential – type of X-Files fan. What do you think I’ve been using as research material for these The X-Files posts? Oh sure, my mammaries are good – err memories – but the half dozen or so journals (archived for your protection) are much, much better.

Three of the six X-Files journals

In these journals were some the most egregious acts of X-files geekiness committed to archival quality paper! We’re talking detailed episode guides, episode lists with legends! Character flow charts, hand drawn maps of various locations depicted in the show, list after bloody list of rants/raves and lawd, help me – some slash and poetry.

If you show me love, maybe I’ll post several scans of the crapatorium housed between the covers of these notebooks! Trust me, you’ll want to see this shit!

There are pay scales for all the major characters. *hangs head in shame*

  6. June 26, 2010 5:33 pm

I definitely want to see some of those charts! Not only am I a sucker for diagrams, but I’d love to meet the Geeky’s Machine side of you as well.

I’ll stop now. This is just the most delightful thing ever, and it’s been a rough week. (Wait, why am I not drinking? The hell?)

Okay, I officially adore you. I was this way about MacGyver. I did grow out of it. Eventually.

OMG OMG OMG!!! When I lived in DC SO many of my friends were GS-whatever-y-doo. Yes yes yes, of COURSE. Because they worked for the bureau. OF COURSE. You, Snarky’s, are a genius.

(And I am now drinking, fyi. A gin rickey. If I stick a silver spoon in it it becomes a Gin Rickey Schroder, hey-o! Heh hehe… heh. Um.)

There is nothing that can describe how amazing this is. I…I can’t even. I too loved the X-Files, but I am nothing compared to this. I respectfully defer to you! ❤

i’ve never thought of RPing as , like, bad, or anything. idk though. i do it sometimes. yeah. i’m in the Skins phase of nerdiness right now. Which, incidentally, might just have landed me a job with them.

    nerdiness pays off?

Man, those journals look so beaten and worn, that there is evidence of LOVE and LEGWORK!
I just HAVE to know what’s inside!

  17. June 27, 2010 1:46 pm

Y’all, I need a few more twists of the arm! More luvin’. The good stuff’s in the journals on the high shelf, which require use of a ladder. It’s a hot day…

  18. June 27, 2010 3:47 pm

To lure you to scan is quite tricky
Perhaps if I make a Gin Rickey?
    Add a clean silver spoon…
Will you show us quite soon?
Even though today’s so hot and sticky?

Only a child of the civil service would think to find out what their actual paygrades actually were.

Sadly, I cannot find the notebooks of ROBOTECH-fic I wrote after breathless and nigh-pornographic brainstorming “plot” sessions with my best friend in 7th grade.

Or maybe that’s a good thing.

This is the best. And it’s so funny because when I was reading your posts I thought, “Hmm…she seems like she’s using some kind of research materials.” PLEASE show more! Disdain for the kind of things we used to be is always an interesting kind of disdain!

Wow. I was an X-Files fan, but I am not that meticulous about anything. I would never have guessed, SM! Keep us guessing ….
